How do you store blueberries?
Prior to storing, remove any damaged blueberries to
prevent the spread of mold. Store ripe blueberries in a covered container in the
refrigerator. Blueberries can be stored for ~7 days. Ensure blueberries are not
stored at room temperature.
Is there any way for me to ripen blueberries?
By placing
an apple with your blueberries, they will ripen faster. Apples emit a natural ethylene
gas that helps ripen other fruits. If you don’t want this to happen to your blueberries
(or any other fruit), be sure to separate apples from other fruits and store them
in loosely closed plastic bags in the refrigerator.
How to pick blueberries
Always
choose blueberries that are firm and have a lively, uniform hue colored with a whitish
bloom. Avoid blueberries that appear dull in color or are soft and watery in texture.
Water causes blueberries to decay. Blueberries hang on the bushes in bunches and
therefore the best way to pick them is to hold your bucket under them and gently
rub them with your fingers. The ripe berries will drop into the bucket and the unripe
ones will remain attached to the bush.
